Week One: Welcome Home.

It's Friday, 7:46 in the morning, and we've been up for about 2.5 hours.  It's safe to say that the jet lag hasn't gone away just yet.  The first week has been crazy busy, but so much fun.  Tuesday was our nap day.. like I said in my previous post, we napped for 6 hours, woke up and went to the food court, then went back to bed.  Arthur woke me up at 2AM that morning because he couldn't sleep any longer... and from that time until we had to wake up at 6:30, we were in and out of sleep.  We met Jacqueline (Current PenFed manager) at 7:30AM, toured the branch, and then got checked into our newcomers orientation.  We learned a LOT there.  The orientation lasted until about 4PM.  Arthur and I both passed our license tests and now we can drive!  After orientation, we went home for a little, then grabbed dinner and walked around the BX, and still feeling jet lagged, we headed back home and went to bed.  Our wifi here has been pretty bad so Facetiming and Skyping our families has been a challenge.

Sunrise on base.  Our temp housing is the building to the right!
Thursday was our busiest day so far.  We met Jacqueline early in the morning again.  We needed to get CAC cards so we could be free to do anything on base, like shop at the commissary, BX, leave and come back on base, etc.  We finally got those cards, and then we headed off base to look at Jacqueline's apartment because we are going to take it over when she leaves in January.  It was ADORABLE.  It is a 3 bedroom, pretty spacious and affordable (especially in comparison to other places off base).  The area the apartment is in is so quaint and cute.  It's a three minute walk to the sea wall, down the street from a scuba shop, cute little restaurants, and a japanese grocery store.  Japan is one of the safest countries in the world, which makes living here even better.  Easy to say, I love it here.  After looking at her apartment, we got food at the little cafe down the street.  We then went car shopping- so many cute cars.  They are all super small and colorful so it's been fun shopping around for one.  The rest of the day was spent making a dozen little stops all over base meeting different clients Arthur will work with.  Our first week here has been so much fun already.  It's beautiful here and we can't wait for our family and friends to start coming.   That's it for now, but I'll post more updates later!!

No words needed.

Names are only so helpful--> but pictures! That's what draws people in.  Could be a memory of a time, or the feeling you get when you picture yourself in that situation.  The power of photography is huge . Pictures can take you back to a moment you had-- one that you could never go back and repeat, and it gives you joy.  Photography can also cause laughter, and quite frequently--embarrassment.  For those pictures, thankfully there is a delete button.  But compare this post to my last one.  Instead of the names of all of the cities and countries to visit on a Eurotrip , try pictures .  See if it entices you more.  These pictures correlate with the list of cities in my previous blogpost... but I will have to split it in half and show you the first fifteen in this post, the last 16 in the next.. :)

Typhoons, Tokyo, and Taylor Swift

We just went into TCCOR 1 ( T ropical C yclone C onditions o f R eadiness), which means destructive sustained winds of 50 knots or greater are expected within 12 hours... kind of scary,  but more so kind of exciting!  This will be our first typhoon that we are going through and as of now, I'm excited!  We've downloaded movies, have lots of snacks and water ready, and I get to spend time with the hubster... what more could I want?! ....  I wrote that last night. and now it's 7:30AM.  Nothing big happened last night, just kind of windy but nothing crazy.  SOOO Arthur and I both got ready for work this morning and just as I finished getting ready and was walking downstairs to my car, Arthur yelled for me to come back up.  We went into TCCOR 1C (Caution) which means no work for the two of us as of now!  YAY!!!

10 Reasons Why Japan is Wonderful

Japan is a very special, unique little place.  Well- it’s not THAT little. Especially when it holds a population of around 127 million.  But what makes Japan so great?  Because as soon as you step on their soil, you know there is something wonderful about the place.  I’ve compiled a list of interesting characteristics about Japan and its people that have captured my love for this foreign, hello-kitty loving, beautiful place.   CUSTOMER SERVICE.  I haven’t been somewhere that has such great customer service.  They will literally run to get you what you asked for, or run around to try and make sure that the customer is happy.  I once asked about a product in the grocery store and they ran to the back of the store, bagged up what I needed, and ran it back to me in under two minutes. 2.       CUSTOMER SERVICE IN RESTAURANTS The customer service in restaurants is quite different than in the U.S.  Typically, they hav...
